The founding opportunity for SOS occurred within days of the Hempfield tornado & the Japanese tsunami in Spring 2011. FRMS students worked together to create an in & out-of-school project. 50 students traveled to the Westmoreland Co. Salvation Army to organize donations to be given to those affected by the tornado. 49 of the 50 stated they had never volunteered before, and all students interviewed stated they truly enjoyed the service opportunity and hoped they could volunteer again. These events in 2011, the students of that class and their comments became the genesis of an idea. The idea became the organization known as Serving Other Souls, Inc.
